Slowflowers: local, seasonal and sustainable flowers to cut yourself or in bunches in Kapenaker (Wormeldange)
Initiative phase: Early beginnings
In Kapenaker (municipality of Wormeldange) I grow a variety of local and seasonal cut flowers on 1000sqm. In order to farm in cycles as much as possible, I use local compost from Flaxweiler in organic quality for cultivation according to the principles of permaculture (no-dig). I do not use pesticides or genetically modified plants. I produce most of my seeds myself with the help of seed.lu. I work with renewable raw materials for packaging and floristry. In this way, I produce beautiful flowers that reach people who are looking for an alternative to industrial cut flowers via short routes. From 2024, I will also offer workshops on Slowflowers in Kapenaker.

Participation opportunities
Cut flowers have the property that they bloom more the more they are cut. Anyone interested in growing cut flowers sustainably is welcome to cut flowers that are not suitable for more for sale and thus stimulate growth. Anyone who would like to help make bunches for sale is also welcome. Oh yes, then there is weeding, weeding, weeding...every hand counts! Anyone who would like to paint or photograph flowers or old fruit trees to make the pictures available is welcome to do so. I am also happy about naturalists who tell me which animals and plants are growing.

The biggest challenge is to create awareness of the natural beauty of local seasonal and sustainable cut flowers.
In three years of production, many have died but others have worked great. Relying on the diversity of the flowers and the power of the soil has been my biggest learning success, which I would like to share.
